In the Middle of the Night (Noir Novel)

The closer you get to the truth, the more obvious it will be that no place is safe.

The worst tragedy in the idyllic neighborhood of Hemlock Circle occurred at Ethan Marsh's residence. One July night, when they were ten years old, Ethan and his best friend Billy spent the night in a tent in the garden. The next morning, Ethan woke up alone. Someone had cut the tent with a knife and taken Billy during the night. He was never heard from again.

Thirty years later, Ethan returns to his childhood home. Tormented by nightmares and insomnia, he begins to notice strange things in the middle of the night. It seems someone is lurking around the neighborhood at unusual hours, and most disturbingly, signs of Billy's presence begin to appear. Is it a cruel joke? Or has Billy, whom everyone believed dead, returned somehow?

Desperate, Ethan begins a search that will reunite him with old friends and lead him to the woods surrounding Hemlock Circle. Woods where Billy claimed to have seen ghosts and where a sinister institute conducts clandestine research. Thus, he will slowly discover that the past never disappears and that it always finds a way to catch up with us.
